Crafty sew and sew in Dorset

Welcome to my world of craft!

Phew, they liked the coats!

The girls finally got their coats and not only do they fit but they love them.

I was so worried that after all that work making them they would rip open their presents to be disappointed that they got a coat and not a toy. I am informed that they do love them though which is such a relief. sketch-1452714283821

Paper Panda November

In between sewing I do quite a bit of paper cutting as it’s another quick results craft….. I am too impatient to complete crafts that take weeks to finish (that would explain my two half finished tapestries then!).

I ordered the paper panda November surprise download,  just £1 for a template.  In November I got a set of designs all similar to the one above but with different words including friends and family.

I made the family one above for a friend at work who was leaving. I think a personal hand made gift always has so much more meaning.

The rabbits design is a freebie from paper panda via

I made this for friends who have just had a baby girl and have a three  year old son,  I thought it was a lovely image to represent sibling love.

Do any of you switch between crafts or do you stick to one main type?

Sewing convert at last

I have finally convinced my daughter to give sewing a try.  She had an Amazon voucher for christmas and chose to buy a book on making clothes for her barbie dolls.

The book arrived this afternoon she has already made one jumper and was so excited  planning other outfits.  Big grin on my face to finally have her hooked!!

The book she bought is really well set out and clear for children to follow with a number of patterns.  We altered the  coat pattern to make a jumper which she was so pleased with.

Simplicity 1477

Hurrah,  I finally finished the second bunny coat for my niece. I made one before Christmas using McCalls M6828 but that pattern comes in two sizes and I ordered the larger one for my kids so wouldn’t work for a three year old.

I thought about how to shrink the pattern pieces down for so long,  stressing me out with the time it would take when I had lots of other gifts to make, that I finally relented and bought another pattern in the smaller size.  My local fabric store didn’t sell the McCalls one so I bought a similar design from simplicity that actual does all the sizes from 3-8.

I made this version in brown felt with pink felt placket and pockets.  I lined it with the same super soft pink fluffy fleece.  There is also pink fleece inside the pockets to keep little hands warm.

I just hope a three and five year old appreciates this as a present and doesn’t throw it to the side like my son would with any item of clothing!!

Happy New Year

Happy 2016, hope you all had a great and safe evening last night and enjoyed the first day of the new year.
My husband and son had to brave the weather this afternoon to walk our dogs…..the hairy one is only a baby so watch this space to see how big he gets!!
