Crafty sew and sew in Dorset

Welcome to my world of craft!

St George’s Day

We spent a great morning watching the beavers,  cubs and scouts parade through the town,  supporting our son who was made Lodge leader today.

image

They were very lucky with the weather,  although a little chilly at times the sun was certainly shining.

image

There was a huge number of scouts which was lovely to see them all together in support of  St George’s Day.

It also made us stop and appreciate the place that we are so lucky to live in.  The gardens and band stand looked great in the sunshine and we were a very short walk to the beach.

Bournemouth council has recently installed a water play area at pier approach right in front of the beach near the cafés and huge merry-go-round.
Feeling blessed!

Style 3686 vintage pattern

image

image

I haven’t started this project yet but wanted to share what I had planned.
I went to my local charity shop for a quick browse and was very pleased to find a stack of sewing patterns for sale,  almost all vintage styles from the 60’s and 70’s for 50p each!!!

I remained disciplined and only bought two (as luck would have it they were all also in my size!) and this is one of them.

I am going to make view 3 which is the short version without the frills at the front and only needs 2 yards.

I went to my local hobbycraft this afternoon for a look around and found this amazing fabric below.

image

I originally picked up a roll of fabric with bright bold flowers that I thought would suit this pattern but my husband pointed out that it was quite thin and would need lining to stop it being see through….that might explain the £6 a metre price tag.

The makower print cotton above is of much better quality and I don’t think I’ll need to line it. It cost £12 a metre which is quite a bit for me to spend on fabric but I only needed two metres and thought I should start spending out a little more.  After all, I have stuck to my no RTW rule since January so must have earned it!!

I have never used a vintage pattern before so am looking forward to this new challenge.  My husband starts a new course at church every Thursday for the next 8 weeks so that evening can become my sewing night 🙂

Competition time…Edinburgh knitting and stitching show

Hi all
Some of you will have seen my last post about winning amazing tickets to the Edinburgh knitting and stitching show from love sewing magazine and my sad dilemma that Bournemouth on the south coast is too far to travel to Scotland.

image

Therefore I have decided to give these tickets away.

If you would like a chance to have these tickets for the bank holiday weekend 28th April to the 2nd May 2016 then post me a comment telling me who you would take and why?

image

I will decide a winner by Saturday 23rd April and put them in the post.

I won a competition!

I actually won!!  I came home yesterday from work to find I had a won two complimentary tickets to the knitting and stitching show over the bank holiday weekend.

image

I had apparently entered a competition with love sewing magazine for entry to the show….I know I entered for a few other things like fabric and patterns but must have entered this as well.

I got very excited and started to look into getting to Edinburgh and planning my shopping list when it dawned on me how far away at live from Scotland!!  Bournemouth to Edinburgh is unfortunately not cheap by plane and takes a day by train or car.

Therefore I have reluctantly decided to give these tickets away….. I will post a competition post shortly…..

Oops I did it again!!!

image

I had a quick look on sewdirect.com as they had a sale on top of the huge discounts of being a member.
I wanted a pattern worthy of cutting into my lovely hawaiian fabric and would be great for her birthday party.
But then one pattern turned into five!!

Two for her to choose between and I could envisage in a gorgeous needle cord. One coat pattern for my daughter as on our last trip to a fabric shop she found some great ripstop fabric.

The last two were for me…. A shirt dress after being inspired by everyone’s post on here and a top that someone on here posted and I loved so much I had to get the pattern…. Plus the extra pattern meant I spent enough to get free postage which was the same price so it was free really… Wasn’t it?!!

We have decided on this pattern for the birthday dress in view C.

I must stop shopping and start sewing,  I must stop shopping and start sewing,  I must stop shopping and start sewing…..

Eliza M Wiggle dress

image

image

I started to post this back in February when I made this dress but must have got distracted as I found it in drafts!!
I have posted this on The monthly stitch group page for the UFO challenge as i bought the fabric a very long time ago and buried it in my stash with the pattern,  free with love sewing Magazine,  and a zip and corky about it.
This fabric was from minerva crafts and is a bright pink bengaline which was lovely to work with and great to wear as it stretches just in the right places for comfort.

Flo dress from love sewing magazine

image

image

Well here it is,  this is the dress my daughter wanted me to make for her to match my Goddaughter’s dress.
The fabric is an old duvet cover my mum gave to me.

Chloe chose to put the red spots on the bottom half and floral on top.
They pattern is really simple,  which was good as it only went up to a size 6 and she is 10 next week.
Luckily she is very petite for her age and can sometimes measure up as an age 4 or 6. I just altered the bodice size slightly and the skirt is just a rectangle and two squares.

image

image

I didn’t have a zip the correct size and she was too impatient to wait for me to get to the fabric shop so I added buttons on the back instead.
I created a placket in the polka dot fabric to help it fit as my bodice adjustments weren’t big enough.  I think I got away with it!!
The top half is lined with the floral print but I left the skirt unlined.

Mary had a little lamb

image

My daughter over the moon at being allowed to hold one

image

On Easter Sunday our local farm opened their doors to let us all meet the little lambs, some as young as 4 hours old……almost made me feel bad about the roast leg of lamb we had for lunch the day before!!

image

These were only 4 hours old

Orphan lambs 😦

And another one to cuddle

That’s probably enough sheep but too cute not to share.
