Crafty sew and sew in Dorset

Welcome to my world of craft!

Simplicity 1477

Hurrah,  I finally finished the second bunny coat for my niece. I made one before Christmas using McCalls M6828 but that pattern comes in two sizes and I ordered the larger one for my kids so wouldn’t work for a three year old.

I thought about how to shrink the pattern pieces down for so long,  stressing me out with the time it would take when I had lots of other gifts to make, that I finally relented and bought another pattern in the smaller size.  My local fabric store didn’t sell the McCalls one so I bought a similar design from simplicity that actual does all the sizes from 3-8.

I made this version in brown felt with pink felt placket and pockets.  I lined it with the same super soft pink fluffy fleece.  There is also pink fleece inside the pockets to keep little hands warm.

I just hope a three and five year old appreciates this as a present and doesn’t throw it to the side like my son would with any item of clothing!!

First Christmas Present Made

So many ideas but not enough time….. My head is full of crafty gifts I want to make for friends and family this Christmas but starting to panic over the days flying past.
I started with a plan to Sew some pyjama bottoms for my nieces after seeing some great Michael Miller colour me in fabric but after a lot of searching gave up trying to buy some in the UK.

So I started to look through my other patterns and came across McCalls M6828 in my stash.

I didn’t think the girls would want to be a raccoon or fox so made a sketch of a rabbit design.
I bought two different colours of felt and matching pink felt trim and gorgeous pink fleece lining.

This one has taken me about 10 hours to sew due to figuring out a better way to attach the lining.
Now I need to adjust the pattern to fit a three year old for the other coat as the pattern started at age 6.
I’ll post photos of the brown version when I get round to that one!

My First Ever Craft Project – Felt Baby Booties

I am so proud of these little shoes as they were the first thing I ever made. I can’t remember where the pattern came from – it was out of a magazine but I didn’t buy crafty magazines then so it’s a bit of a mystery!!

I used glitter felt to make these ones – red for the outside and white inside. I made these when I was pregnant but as we didn’t know if we were having a boy or a girl I had to play it safe. I was very tempted by the pink glitter felt (and as it turned out I could have made them in pink!).

I am particularly proud of these little bird booties considering I had never made anything before. Our Daughter now uses these booties for her dolls.

Making Magazine Cushion

When I received the Making magazine below through my letterbox I was really inspired to make the cushion on the cover.

I bought a plain green cushion from Ikea and used some of my felt from my fabric stash to create the cushion below. I get lots of positive comments about how bright and cheerful this cushion is.

I used wooden buttons from fabricland instead of the homemade ones used in the magazine. After making this cushion, I was inspired to use this flower design to create a ring.

Gillian Gladrag – Felt Bag

I love this bag and hopefully one day I’ll get to use it!! I just need to be brave enough (and have enough hours to myself) to get on with it and start felting!!

Oh la la Pen Cover

Burlesque beauty pen cover – add some excitement to your pens!! This was from a Mollie Makes magazine and I couldn’t resist making one – it certainly adds some entertainment to meetings.

I had such positive feedback from friends at work I even made one as a Christmas present – personalised of course with hairstyle and clothes to match my friend.

Cheeky Peek……
